Name: Yi MAO
When I studied from primary school to high school, my teachers usually used a traditional way of teaching such as text book, conversation, no technology in the classroom, no social networking. But in my college years, teachers have added the use of multimedia to teach us. For example, in Joe’s class, we can share our thoughts via Padlet; chat room in BigBlueButton or class SPLOT as discussion forum. Joe usually shared videos, links, PPT or other useful information on Moodle or Kumu Wiki, we can read them in our spare time. I think social networking is another good way to influence students’ motivation and change their behavior as I mentioned in my group presentation last Thursday. Facebook allows instructors to create groups that are easy to open and manage; teachers also can read ‘likes’ to know whether or not their students enjoyed the class. Social media might help instructors share their own teaching material which can be viewed by students anytime and anywhere. It might increase students’ knowledge of different culture at times because of diverse users on Facebook or other social media. However we should have awareness of privacy and security. I would say that not all information is about educational reliable resources. There are people who can use our personal information to commit cybercrime. We should think carefully before posting on social media account.
Nowadays, teachers are looking for new ways to transfer knowledge to students and check their skills. There are currently many tools of technology. Thanks to COVID 19, we can develop entire remote learning course that can be exported directly to educational field. The use of technology helps students’ self-learning ability and it allows teacher to teach a large number of knowledge given the fact that they may not have enough time to do that in class. Remote learning helps teachers also reach all students through virtual communication especially shy students who may not participate in a face-to-face interaction. When Joe showed once VR/AR technology in online class, I found it amazing. I would like to use 3 Dimension space in my future French teaching. Students can become more and more engaged in the learning process with a blended learning style (traditional + technology). However in some Chinese remote areas, students cannot use technology in the classroom because of lack of technological support or training. I hope the Chinese government could solve these problems in order to let all students connect with the technology.
Thank all of you my friends, stay well and good luck 🙂
Hello Yi Mao!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Like you I also got my education in traditional classroom system in India and with this course I learnt a lot about how technology can be used in education specifically to make it interactive and engaging. All the new things we learnt like VR and AR are going to help us a lot in future both in teaching as well as in learning.
Hello Yi Mao!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I have had a similar learning experience in the past wherein my teachers implemented conventional teaching methods in the classrooms. However, the idea of interactive classes and incorporation of technology in the classrooms is something I experienced at TRU. This course particularly immersed us in the deep ocean of technological knowledge. I believe, students nowadays no longer learn the way we used to. Hence, there is a need to adapt and modify our teaching pedagogies. I agree with you that blended teaching styles can certainly improve students’ engagement and active learning. The blended teaching approach is something I as an educator would like to implement in my classes.
Kind Regards,
Sarabjit
